Bessemer and Lake Erie, located in Ohio and Pennsylvania, was founded in 1897 to haul iron ore from Lake Erie's Conneaut Harbor to steel plants in Pittsburgh and would return with coal. These are still the major commodities hauled by this line today although, in 2004 B&LE Railroad was acquired by Canadian National Railway.
